FLEX WORK ARRANGEMENTS
Flexible (flex) work arrangements (Policy 7.3) may allow eligible FAU employees to perform the normal, established duties and responsibilities of their positions in alternate ways or schedules from the traditional working day and week and campus location. Carefully planned flexible work arrangements can have many benefits, including increased productivity, competitive recruitment, and retention, improved environmental sustainability and effective space utilization, and streamlined financial efficiency. These benefits aid the University with maintaining vibrant campuses and sites with effective staffing to support students and other key University constituencies. Flex work arrangements are not intended to be permanent.
Flexible Work Arrangements are available for all employees except for employees in teaching positions such as: Faculty, Adjunct and Graduate Teaching Assistant
|Flexible Work Arrangement||
A schedule that falls outside of the position’s or unit’s usual schedule or university workplace. Flexible work arrangements are not the same as an occasional need for flexibility.
|Flexible Work Agreement||
An executed arrangement that establishes the final terms and conditions.
|Compressed Work||A schedule with a reduction in the number of workdays in a work week and changes to an employee’s starting and departure times that are outside of a unit’s usual or standard shift. The total number of hours worked in a workweek are not altered. Compressed schedule options:
|Hybrid Schedule||A schedule that permits eligible employees to perform work both on-campus and remotely. The employee’s schedule must be set with a minimum of 3 days onsite for any given work week|
|Flextime||A schedule with variations in which an employee’s starting and departure times fall outside of a unit’s standard shift. The total number of hours worked in a workweek are not altered.|
|Flexplace (Temporary Alternate Workplace)||A work location other than the employee’s University Workplace on-campus, such as an alternate office, building, or campus for a defined period of time. Workspace is different for the employee for limited time. Limited to FAU campuses only.|
|Remote Work Schedule||A work arrangement in which the employee’s work as assigned occurs 100% from an off-campus location. This arrangement is granted under limited circumstances.|
