Deepak

DEEPAK BASTOLA - “IFP is like a third eye that opens your perspective to the world within the university.”

IFP allows Deepak to help new international students feel welcomed, supported, and connected, especially during a time when they are adapting to a new environment. Driven by a deep belief in the power of human connection and mutual understanding, IFP has broadened his perspective through meaningful interactions with students from around the world and sharpened his skills in leadership, communication, and cultural sensitivity, which are invaluable in today’s interconnected world.

IFP is more than just a program; it’s a platform that fosters understanding, empathy, and lasting friendships within the university community.

A favorite moment? The Fall 2024 FAU vs. FIU football game, when a rain delay turned into an unexpected hangout with students from another university. That moment, filled with shared stories and laughter, reminded him why IFP matters.

For new mentors, Deepak’s advice is to always be proactive in thinking about their mentee’s needs and in sharing opportunities that might help them adapt and thrive. Remember, you’re not just a guide, but a bridge to the university culture and community.

Sathvik

SATHVIK GAJULA - "IFP is a welcoming community where friendships are built, and new international students feel at home.”

Sathvik joined IFP to offer the kind of guidance he wished he had when he first arrived. The involvement in IFP has strengthened his leadership, communication, and mentoring skills, making him a more well-rounded individual ready to excel in any environment.

What he enjoys most is witnessing the growth of his mentees, especially as they gain confidence and navigate well both academic and personal challenges.

Sathvik encourages new mentors to be proactive, patient, and open-minded, emphasizing how small gestures can leave a big impact.

Nora

NORA GUTZWILLER - "The IFP is a program where differences meet, friendships are made, and laughter is shared."

Nora began her journey with the International Friends Program (IFP) as a mentee and she found friendship, community, and encouragement - eventually meeting her best friend and roommate through the program. Inspired by the support she received, Nora transitioned into a mentor role, eager to help others adjust and thrive in their new environment.

One of her most meaningful experiences has been forming a close bond with her current mentee, built on shared memories and mutual support.

Nora encourages mentors to be present, empathetic, and supportive because your mentee’s success starts with you showing up.
