Who are the international peer mentors?

The mentors are current students, both domestic and international students. To qualify, students have completed at least one semester of study at FAU. You are required to:

  • Attend training sessions
  • Complete check-in with an IFP coordinator
  • Communicate regularly and effectively one-on-one with your mentees and direct them to the appropriate campus and community resources where their concerns may be addressed.
  • Organize meet-ups/activities for your mentees at least once a month to stay connected.
  • Actively participate in CGE programming and IFP events.

What are the benefits/rewards of becoming a peer mentor?

Mentors will have the invaluable opportunity to meet and become acquainted with new international students and will benefit from being involved in this program in the following ways:

  • Share, learn, and grow together with your mentees.
  • Eligible to apply and become a Global Ambassador.
  • Participate in leadership training and conference opportunities.
  • Develop lifelong relationships with friends from different countries.
  • Shape the direction of this relatively new program and contribute to its success.
  • Special invitations to CGE events and programming (and occasionally free food!).
  • Receive a recognition certificate and a cool IFP t-shirt.
  • Earn volunteer hours that can be shown on your transcript.

Important note: In the matching survey (shown below), please be sure to select “international student” in addition to your primary category if you are interested in mentoring international students.
