Becoming A strong candidate

We encourage FAU students to begin the process early in their college career, so they can begin building a competitive application. While each fellowship requirement varies, the following preparation should be considered:

• Maintaining a high GPA (3.5 or higher)
• Creating a four-year plan with classes that pertain to your research/professional interests
• Pursuing more from your academic experience such as:
  • Obtaining mentored Undergraduate Research experience(s)
  • Completing a Study Abroad experience
  • Taking Writing Intensive Courses
  • Applying to one of the Honors Programs
  • Developing leadership/ambassadorial skills through participation in extracurricular activities: Academic Service-Learning; Community-Based Learning; Internships and Cooperative Education
  • Learning a foreign language (if applicable)
  • Pursuing capstone courses (see individual departments for capstone experiences)
