PEERS® Teen Program
FAU CARD has worked to train three local agencies to help provide the PEERS® program in our local community.
What is PEERS®?
A social skills treatment group where teens learn how to make and keep friends. PEERS® is an evidence-based treatment program developed by UCLA to teach teens with high functioning ASD how to make and keep friends. Some of the topics that will be addressed over the course of treatment include: Conversational skills, Finding common interests, Reciprocal conversation, Non-verbal communication, Electronic communication, Safety, Choosing friends, Extracurricular activities, Appropriate use of humor, Potential friends and rejection, Gettogethers, Good sportsmanship, Peer rejection, Teasing & bullying, Changing a bad reputation, and Peer conflict.
Where will the group occur?
Three local agencies have been trained in the PEERS® program and will be offering it in the Boca Raton/Delray Beach area, Wellington/Loxahatchee and Palm Beach Gardens/Jupiter.
