What is the IFP and how do I complete the courses?

All entering first-year or transfer students with less than 60 credits must fulfill the university's Intellectual Foundations Program (IFP) requirements as part of their pursuit of the baccalaureate degree. While the IFP courses do not necessarily relate to the major, they do provide a foundation of knowledge that all well-educated students should possess. The IFP is comprised of a total of 36 credit hours.

    • 6 hours of Foundations of Written Communication
    • 6 hours of Foundations of Society & Human Behavior
    • 6 hours of Foundations of Science & the Natural World
    • 6 hours of Foundations of Mathematics & Quantitative Reasoning
    • 6 hours of Foundations of Global Citizenship
    • 6 hours of Foundations of Creative Expression

For more information, consult University Advising Services or the FAU undergraduate catalog.

How can I find out what transfer credits FAU accepted from my other institution(s)?

Please run a DARS, which is your degree audit. Download these pdf instructions or visit the Registrar's webpage for additional information.

  • If you would like to know how transfer credits, if any, applied to the IFP, please submit an IFP Audit Request
  • For all other courses, please speak/meet with an advisor within your college to determine how your transfer credits will be applied to your degree program.
How can I change my major?

If you would like to change your major and you have NOT completed your EZ Advising form, you can request to change your major in EZ Advising. Just select the major you would like to pursue. Your advisor will let you know if the major you selected is not an option for some reason. If you would like to change your major and you have ALREADY completed your EZ Advising form, you will need to talk with an advisor.
