Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine
Mr. Mark Goldstein
Mark Goldstein has played a key role in expanding the healthcare training facilities at FAU. He was the architect behind the development and implementation of the Simulation Center at the Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine and piloted numerous healthcare education programs. As Senior Director of the Clinical Skills Simulation Center, Mr. Goldstein secured more than $2 million in grants and helped to integrate technology into healthcare education, which has benefited our students, faculty, and members of the community.

College of Engineering and Computer Science
Ms. Tamsyn Carey
Tamsyn Carey is helping to inspire and develop the next generation of engineers and computer scientists. As Assistant Dean for the Division of Engineering Student Services and Advising, she developed a more proactive student outreach and advising program, helping to facilitate students’ success. She also launched the Women in Engineering and Computer Science program. Additionally, Ms. Carey played a key role in planning FAU’s live Skype call with the International Space Station, which gave more than 200 local high school and college students an opportunity to speak with an astronaut.
Phyllis & Harvey Sandler School of Social Work
Ms. Sara Dochterman
Sara Dochterman works tirelessly to improve the efficiency and outreach of the Phyllis and Harvey Sandler School of Social Work. As Assistant Director of Operations and Finance, she oversaw all stages of the School’s renovation project and continues to facilitate updates to the space. She also manages the professional development program. Ms. Dochterman’s efforts have resulted in a considerable increase in revenue and an immeasurable amount of positive attention for the School.

Richard Mahler
As Assistant Director of Student Activities and Involvement, Richard Mahler specializes in implementing new programs and enhancing existing ones to increase engagement and build affinity among our students. Even before Covid-19, Richard had a program in place to interact with online students. Once virtual programming became our only option, Richard found innovative ways to keep students connected, at a time when they need it the most.

Lizeth Garcia
As program assistant, Lizeth is the “face” of the department to incoming graduate students, who often express their appreciation for her detailed assistance in navigating Graduate College protocols. Each semester, she goes the “extra mile” with faculty and students to ensure the department is a success.

Office of Undergraduate Research and Inquiry
Dr. Tracy Baker
Dr. Tracy Baker has been instrumental in building a culture of undergraduate research at FAU. As Assistant Director of the Office of Undergraduate Research and Inquiry, she helped launch and currently manages several key programs, including the Peer Mentor Program and the Florida Atlantic Undergraduate Research Journal. Dr. Baker also serves as an ambassador for OURI both within FAU and with external partners, while going above and beyond to mentor students, and assist her colleagues at FAU and in the statewide undergraduate research community.
Department of Mathematical Sciences
Ms. Emily Cimillo
As Budget and Outreach Manager for the Department of Mathematical Sciences, Emily Cimillo ensures efficient and effective use of FAU resources. She also assists faculty with grant proposal submissions and facilitates the department’s community outreach activities. Fifteen years ago, she had the idea of hosting “Math Days” to increase interest in mathematics among local elementary, middle and high school students. Her efforts, including fundraising, marketing and logistics, resulted in one of the university’s most important outreach events, which brings hundreds of potential Owls to FAU year after year.

Donnell Anthony Johnson
As Instructional Technologies Training Coordinator, Donnell provides course migration assistance and collaborative training consultations to faculty and staff. He played an integral role in transitioning the university to a fully remote state, during the pandemic. He has been described an unfailingly patient and incredibly helpful, and we are very fortunate that Donnell is a member of our Office of Information Technology.

Anna Holmes
As Coordinator of Academic Support Services, Anna consistently provides top-quality service through her natural diligence, conscientious style, calm demeanor, and cheerful disposition. She is an indispensable resource for students, faculty, and staff, and she makes the daily functions and operations of the college run smoothly and efficiently.

Dr. Michael J.L. Smith
Dr. Michael J.L. Smith believes that every student is a success story ready to unfold. A highly lauded medical educator, he works tirelessly to mentor minority medical and pre-health students in our community with great energy and passion. Dr. Smith helped to build and continues to oversee the FAMU-FAU Medical Scholars Program, a pipeline program to promote diversity and inclusion in the medical profession. He is an exemplary model of professionalism and an inspiration to all students pursuing careers in medicine.

Dr. Mario Jacomino
In addition to serving as an associate professor, Dr. Mario Jacomino has volunteered as a pediatrician at Caridad Center – the largest free clinic in Florida – for more than 20 years. He launched the PET (Prevention, Education and Treatment) program more than 15 years ago and continues to promote a healthier community, one family at a time. He also facilitated an agreement that allows our medical students to gain hands-on clinical experience at the Caridad Center, which consistently receives positive feedback. Dr. Jacomino truly exemplifies compassion and commitment to the underserved in our community, and he is a role model for service for all of our medical students.
