60+ Audit Program for Certain Courses

Adults who are 60 years of age or older and are permanent residents of Florida may audit certain undergraduate courses at Florida Atlantic University tuition-free. Florida residency is established by living in the State of Florida for at least twelve (12) consecutive months prior to the start of the semester. Classroom space for 60+ Audit is based on availability after regular student registration. As such, registration for 60+ Auditors takes place after the end of the regular Drop/Add period. Course offerings are limited and vary each semester. These offerings are determined by the academic departments in conjunction with their faculty and represent the complete list of course choices for the semester. We anticipate the course offerings for Spring 2026 to be available on December 12, 2025.

In order to be eligible to register for the courses, you must take these steps prior to registration.

  • If you are a first-time 60+ audit student or have not attended FAU within the past 12 consecutive months:
    • Complete the Non-Degree Application and pay the non-refundable $30 application fee no later than Tuesday, January 13, 2026. Documentation submitted late may not be processed in time for Spring registration on Tuesday, January 20, 2026.
    • After your application has been processed, submit your Residency affidavit and upload your documents through the residency portal at http://owlres.fau.edu/apps/
    •  Resolve any registration holds prior to Spring registration on January 20, 2026. Students can view their holds by logging into MyFAU and then clicking on the Holds tile located under the Student Records tab.
  • If you are a student that has participated in the 60+ Audit program within the last 12 months, you do not need to re-apply and will be able to register at the appointed time, provided there are no holds on your FAU account.

Auditor Etiquette

Auditors are expected to listen and not take part in class discussions unless the instructor allows such participation. The instructor's primary focus is with students taking the course for credit/grade.

Auditors: Please sit behind the students enrolled for credit. The instructor expects to see and be able to call on these students as part of the class discussions. Also, please do not invite guests to attend classes with you.

Fees Not Covered by Audit Waiver

Parking Decal

All students, including online and audit students, are assessed a non-refundable transportation access fee at the time of registration. This fee supports the University's transportation infrastructure and increases student access to transportation services. Upon payment of this fee, students will be eligible to register their vehicles for parking. For more information and to register your vehicle, visit http://www.fau.edu/parking/. This fee is not part of the waiver, and students will be responsible for paying the fee.

Student ID

During a student’s first semester attending FAU, there will be a one-time charge to the student’s account for a student ID card (OWL Card). The OWL Card is a gateway to the library as well as retail discounts and other services at Florida Atlantic University. All students are required to obtain one. The fee is non-refundable and will automatically be charged to your account. This fee is not covered by the 60+ Waiver.
