Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

Search engine optimization is the process of improving your rank in search results. This ensures users find what they are looking for, generating more traffic for your site. It is also what is first displayed for a search.

  1. Use SEO-friendly URLs:
Use descriptive, keyword-rich URLs for each page of your website. Avoid using URLs that are long and non-descriptive.

  2. Optimize page titles and meta descriptions:
Ensure that each page of your website has a unique, descriptive title tag and meta description that includes your targeted keywords. Keep character count in between 140-150 to ensure nothing is cut off.

  3. Use header tags:
Use header tags (H1, H2, H3, etc.) to structure your content and make it easier for search engines to understand the hierarchy of your content.

  4. Add alt tags to images:
Add descriptive alt tags to all images on your website. This helps search engines understand the context of your images and can also improve accessibility for visually impaired users.

    Example

    https://www.fau.edu/public-affairs/images/smiling-student-fau.jpg (Image)

alt=” Current FAU student majoring in marketing smiling on campus” (What you can put in an alternative description for the image if this is for a BA in marketing)

  5. Use internal linking:
Link to other pages on your website when relevant. This helps search engines understand the structure of your website and can also improve the user experience.

  6. Publish high-quality content:
Publish high-quality, relevant and unique content on your website regularly. Content is key. This can help improve your search engine rankings and attract more traffic to your website.
