A Smashing Time at the Pumpkin Drop and Physics Carnival

Friday, Oct 27, 2023

Florida Atlantic held its annual Pumpkin Drop and Physics Carnival today, demonstrating basic physics principles, such as the constant acceleration of gravity, terminal velocity and Newton’s Laws. Each year, faculty from the Charles E. Schmidt College of Science Department of Physics explain these principles while tossing a variety of pumpkins from the roof of the Science Building on the Boca Raton campus.

Following the Pumpkin Drop, the Physics Carnival showcased educational games, children’s face painting, hands-on physics presentations and more. Over the years, this festive affair has become a much-loved tradition for Florida Atlantic and the greater community. Thank you to the FAU Physics Department and FAU Physics & Astronomy Club for once again hosting this exciting and informative event for all to enjoy.
