Today, and throughout the month of February, we are called to honor the 46th annual National Black History Month in America. The theme for 2022, chosen each year by the Association for the Study of African American Life and History, is Black Health and Wellness.

At a time when the Covid-19 pandemic continues to impact the wellbeing of many Americans, this theme shines an even brighter light on the Black community’s significant contributions to medicine, as well as the urgent health disparities that still exist throughout our society. By eliminating equity gaps and becoming the No. 12 producers of bachelor’s degrees for African Americans in the nation, I am proud to say that FAU is changing the status quo across all fields, including the health sciences.

Several FAU Black History Month events will be taking place across the Boca Raton, Dania Beach, Davie, and Fort Lauderdale campuses, as well as virtually. Additionally, the Florida Atlantic University Library is featuring special collections in celebration of Black History Month, including FAU Black History links. I highly encourage all members of our community to observe and participate wherever possible.
