‘Capturing the American Presidency’ with Pulitzer Prize-Winning Photographer Doug Mills

Florida Atlantic University presents  the 2026 Alan B. and Charna Larkin Symposium on the American Presidency featuring  Capturing the American Presidency,” a special presentation by Doug Mills, the Pulitzer Prize-winning senior photographer for “The New York Times.” The event will take place on  Thursday, February 26 at 4 p.m. in the University Theatre  on Florida Atlantic’s Boca Raton campus, 777 Glades Road. Tickets for the lecture are $35; FAU students are free, and FAU faculty and staff tickets are $10 at  www.fauevents.com. “America 250 We Hold These Truths, We Walk These Grounds,” an exhibition including photographs by Doug Mills, will be open before the lecture in the Schmidt Center Gallery with light refreshments starting at 2:30 pm.

For more than four decades, Mills has chronicled presidents and presidential campaigns, beginning his career with United Press International and The Associated Press before joining “The New York Times” Washington Bureau in 2002. He recently earned his third Pulitzer Prize for his photographic coverage of the assassination attempt on President Donald Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania. His first Pulitzer was in 1993 with the Associated Press for team coverage of the Clinton/Gore campaign and he won a second Pulitzer for the A.P.’s team investigative coverage of the Monica Lewinsky affair.

Mills was awarded 2021 Photographer of the Year in the White House News Photographers Association, along with numerous awards since joining the organization in 1985. Mills won The White House Correspondents’ Association Award for Excellence in Presidential News Coverage by Visual Journalists in 2020, 2023, 2024 and 2025.

“America at 250: We Hold These Truths: We Walk These Grounds,” featuring work by Doug Mills, will be on  view in the Schmidt Gallery from January 22 to March 29, 2026.
