Notice: Proposed Changes to Non-Resident Tuition, Housing Rental Fees
Florida Atlantic University’s momentum continues.
In U.S. News & World Report’s 2027 rankings, we rose to No. 99 among the nation’s Top Public Schools. This is our highest position ever and our second consecutive year in the Top 100. We also remain one of only 13 universities nationwide to hold the Carnegie R1 research designation and the Carnegie designations for Opportunity and Community Engagement. Florida Atlantic continues to stand where academic excellence and opportunity meet.
This summer, the Board of Trustees and the Florida Board of Governors approved our 2026–2031 strategic plan, 2031FAU: Where Tomorrow Begins. It sets four clear commitments for the years ahead:
Deliver a return on investment for 100% of our students, so that every Florida Atlantic degree leads to a meaningful career and a better life.
Discover solutions that create healthier, safer, and more prosperous communities through research.
Power our rise by making the most of our people, our campuses, and our location along Florida’s Atlantic coast.
Elevate Florida Atlantic’s national reputation as a destination for talent, innovation, and economic growth.
Research is central to that vision. As a top-tier R1 university, Florida Atlantic gives undergraduates and graduate students the chance to work alongside faculty on real-world challenges in fields such as neuroscience, ocean engineering, national security and autonomous systems, and quantum technologies. These opportunities strengthen your education, add value to your degree, and prepare highly skilled graduates for South Florida’s economy.
To sustain its momentum and keep pace with the rising costs of instruction and operations, Florida Atlantic University will ask its Board of Trustees to approve a 10 percent increase in certain tuition and fees for non-resident (out-of-state) students, effective Fall 2027. Tuition and fees for Florida residents will not change.
The additional revenue will help the university maintain a high-quality academic experience and invest in programs that prepare students for successful careers, including Essential Success Skills and pathways into emerging fields. Even with this increase, Florida Atlantic will remain one of the most affordable national research universities for out-of-state students.
The university will also propose a 3 percent increase in housing rental rates in each of the next three academic years. This increase will help us maintain quality services for residential students and fund major improvements to our residence halls.
The Board will consider both proposals for final approval at its full board meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 17, at 10 a.m. in the Dr. Jeffrey P. & Barbara S. Feingold Board of Trustees Room, Williams Administration Building, on the Boca Raton campus.
For more information on tuition, please refer to the posted Regulation Notice. For more information on rental rates, please refer to the Housing and Residential Education website.
We know that any increase affects real budgets, and we have worked to keep these increases below those at many of our peer institutions. If the proposals are approved, the Office of Student Financial Aid will reach out directly to affected students to review financial assistance options.
Demand for a Florida Atlantic education has never been higher. This past year, we received more than 59,000 first-year applications and welcomed an incoming class of more than 4,800 Owls. Revenue from these proposals will be reinvested in the academic programs, student services, and campus experience that make that growth possible.
Thank you for continuing to be part of Florida Atlantic’s extraordinary journey.
