FAU High School Merit Scholars Shine in the Class of 2027

With 17 seniors named 2027 National Merit Scholarship Program semifinalists and 40 “commended students,” the Class of 2027 at Florida Atlantic University High School continues the school’s tradition of exemplary academic achievement.
These 57 students make up 37% of the 2027 graduating class – and the 17 semifinalists represent less than 1% of the nation’s high school graduating seniors. Of this group, 9% qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, and 11% are first-generation college students.
The FAU High students named National Merit Scholarship Program semifinalists are Chris J. Adokou, Isaak A. Almaleh, Vidush Balmuri, Evan D. Heck, George G. Honeycutt, Visak Kumar, Alexander B. Labonia, Dylan E. Lipset, Gabriel E. Medina, Evan A. Palskoi, Ivan I. Peev, Daniel Portas Levy, Sarah R. Roldan, Christopher S. Rose, Sanvi A. Shankar, Tanzeela Tasneem and Grace Y. Zhu.
“We are exceptionally proud of the Class of 2027 and the breadth of achievement represented in these National Merit recognitions,” said Lauren Robinson, Ed.D., principal of A.D. Henderson University School and FAU High School. “Our students bring diverse experiences, perspectives and aspirations to our classrooms, and they continue to demonstrate that exceptional achievement can flourish when students have access to the right opportunities and are encouraged to pursue their potential. This recognition is a testament to their hard work, their families, and the educators who support them.”
The semifinalists can now advance to the finalist level of the competition and the Merit Scholarship awards. The National Merit Scholarship Program is an annual academic competition among high school students for recognition and college undergraduate scholarships that began in 1955. The program is conducted by National Merit Scholarship Corporation, a not-for-profit organization that operates without government assistance.
