Metabolic Health
When your metabolism is out of balance, it can affect every system in your body: from your energy levels and sleep to your weight, mood, and immune function.
At the Marcus Institute of Integrative Health, our approach to metabolic health goes far beyond quick “fixes.” We work to uncover why your metabolism is struggling and develop a personalized plan that helps your whole body function optimally.
Our Approach to Metabolic Health
Your metabolism is an intricate network of processes that power your cells, regulate your hormones, and maintain your energy. When any part of this system is disrupted, you may feel it in countless ways: from difficulty losing weight to fatigue, digestive issues, sleep disruption, anxiety, or simply not feeling like yourself.
At the Marcus Institute, our approach to metabolic health care is both scientifically rigorous and deeply focused on you as an individual. Our team relies on comprehensive assessments such as hormone panels, thyroid function tests, micronutrient analysis, DNA testing, sensitivity testing, and in-depth gastrointestinal evaluations.
But we also understand that lab results are only part of the story.
Our clinicians take the time to truly listen to your history, your daily habits, your stressors, and how you feel in your own body. Kimberly Hue-Laing leads our Metabolic Health program, combining cutting-edge functional testing with whole-person insight to identify the complex patterns that affect your metabolism and well-being. This approach allows us to create personalized care plans that not only address symptoms, but restore balance, energy, and long-term health.
Symptoms We Treat
Our team addresses a wide range of metabolic and functional concerns, including:
- Weight gain or resistance to weight loss
- Chronic fatigue and low energy
- Blood sugar fluctuations or insulin resistance
- Digestive discomfort and food sensitivities
- Sleep disturbances
- Mood changes, anxiety, or brain fog
- Inflammation and immune dysfunction
- Hormonal imbalances (thyroid, adrenal, or sex hormones)
Our team takes the time to truly listen — to your history, routines, stressors, and goals — so your plan reflects your whole life, not just your lab values. Many of our patients have already seen a GI specialist or allergist; we pick up where those evaluations end, using cutting-edge diagnostics and lab testing to uncover root causes of metabolic imbalances that often go undiagnosed.
Metabolic Health Services and Treatments
Our treatment plans are highly individualized and may include a combination of the following:
Weight Loss Management
Nurse Practitioner Kim and her team provide safe, medically guided weight management for men and women. Depending on your needs, your plan may include GLP-1 injections (such as semaglutide or tirzepatide) provided through trusted compounding pharmacies that prepare custom formulations (often with B12 or glycine) tailored to you.
Your treatment plan is supported with regular follow-ups, lab monitoring, and whole-body care — including a full consultation, hormone and thyroid panels, monthly check-ins, and frequent lab monitoring for pancreatitis, liver, and renal parameters. We focus on long-term metabolic balance, not just the number on the scale. You should feel good and function well while losing weight — and if side effects appear, we manage them promptly.
Gut and Digestive Health
We address the full spectrum of gut-related issues — including food sensitivities, SIBO, dysbiosis, and adrenal dysfunction — through comprehensive lab testing, targeted supplements, probiotic therapy, and nutritional counseling. We’ll also explore the mind–gut connection to help you understand and respond to your body’s signals.
For example, care plans for conditions like SIBO/SIFO are individualized and may evolve over months, with antibiotic therapy when indicated, plus iterative adjustments to supplements and diet based on your response. Care plans for sensitivities may include supplements and nutritional counseling. Every treatment plan is unique to the patient’s needs.
Intramuscular Injections and IV Therapy
Intramuscular (IM) injections and IV nutrient therapy are sometimes suggested for established patients as part of a personalized care plan. We create bespoke formulations for each patient based on lab findings and your ongoing metabolic health plan, ensuring that what you receive aligns with your body’s needs and long-term wellness goals. Depending on your needs, options may include support for energy, immunity, sleep, or neuropathy, as well as targeted therapies such as NAD.
Hormone Balancing and HRT
We evaluate thyroid, adrenal, and sex hormones to identify imbalances that may contribute to fatigue, weight change, or mood shifts. When appropriate, we offer bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (HRT) as part of a closely monitored plan individualized for men and women.
Nutritional Counseling and Coaching
At the Marcus Institute, there are no one-size-fits-all plans. You’ll receive expert guidance on creating a sustainable nutrition plan that supports metabolic repair, hormone regulation, mood, and gut health. You’ll meet with an expert nutrition coach for sustained behavior change and day-to-day guidance. You’ll learn to listen to your body, and we’ll adjust the plan as you do. Our goal is to help you build a relationship with food that nourishes you from the inside out.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture is offered as part of a comprehensive approach to restoring balance in the body and supporting metabolic function. Acupuncture can help regulate hormones, reduce inflammation, improve circulation, and support digestion—all of which play a role in healthy metabolism. It’s especially beneficial for patients seeking natural ways to manage stress, balance blood sugar, or enhance energy and sleep as part of their overall wellness plan. Each treatment is personalized and can be integrated with your broader metabolic health program for optimal results.
