Individual Concentration in International Studies and Education

Michael Berg came to the Wilkes Honors College from Anclote High School in Holiday, Florida. A Flager Scholar, Michael chose this concentration so that he would the opportunity to pursue a career in either education or foreign affairs, two passions he has had since early high school. His goal is to work in a capacity where he can better society for children of present and future generations, who truly are the future leaders of our communities. Michael is a second-degree black belt in Isshin-Ryu karate and represented the AAU-USA National Karate Team in Dundee, Scotland in 2018. He is also an Eagle Scout, who summited Mt. Rainier, the tallest mountain in the continental United States during his Outward Bound experience freshman year. Asked about what drew him to the Wilkes Honors College Michael notes, “our former Dean, Dr. Ellen Goldey, told me once that a liberal arts education is a critically important driver of positive change. The interdisciplinary approach that the Honors College takes to educating the student as a whole is something that I find admirable and much needed in our present day and time.”
