Dr. Andia Chaves Fonnegra

Assistant Professor of Biology

Andia Chaves Fonnegra

I am interested in processes that structure marine habitats, especially coral reefs ecosystems. I examine interactions among organisms and the surrounding environment as well as specific aspects of reproduction, evolution and connectivity of populations, particularly of sponges, corals and algae. My final goal is to determine how ecosystems and ecological interactions are altered by anthropogenic activities, and use this knowledge to enhance management of marine ecosystems.

I am currently designing a course on experimental design and data analysis. I would like to give students research tools that will help them to answer their own questions. The Honors College supports students and faculty in an environment that is open to new teaching methods and technologies.

I love swimming, running, biking, yoga and meditation. When possible, traveling around the world and learn about other cultures and environments.
