Dr. Mehmet Gurses Awarded Honorable Mention for Best Article in 2015, Political Research Quarterly

The paper examines the effect of transborder ethnic ties on how civil wars end. These networks, Dr. Gurses argues, can help create a more balanced relationship between an ethnic group and a previously antagonistic state by increasing the political, economic, and military costs of repression for the government. As such, transborder ethnic ties contribute to the outcomes more favorable to rebels.
