Orientation Advising

Greetings newly admitted transfer students,
Orientation Advising is a major component of the Transfer Orientation program and is critical to the success of new transfer students. Orientation Advising takes place during the on-campus orientation program. Please review the goals of Orientation Advising below:

  1. Meet the (major-specific) Advising staff and begin advising relationship.
  2. Develop an understanding of university policies.
  3. Review degree requirements.
  4. Learn and practice the course registration process.
  5. Register for term of entry.

Prepare for Orientation Advising
The Transfer Admitted Checklist is a timeline designed to assist newly admitted students complete the onboarding process to FAU. To best prepare for advising and registration, please be sure to complete all checklist items.
Orientation Holds
All new incoming transfer students receive two holds upon admission to Florida Atlantic University.
  1. Orientation Transfer (OT) Hold – intended to require participation in the transfer orientation program. This hold will be removed after successful completion of the orientation program (on-campus or virtual orientation).
  2. Orientation Advising (OA) Hold – intended to require a formal advising appointment with an academic advisor prior to registration. This hold will be removed by your academic advising department after your attendance at orientation advising is confirmed.
