Knit & Stitch Together Workshops
The participatory project created by Danish textile artist, Isabel Berglund, explores the social spaces of “togetherness”, “relationships”
and “home”. This immersive, large-scale installation will consist of individual handknitted and crocheted patches joined together with threads.
The artist’s intent is to break down socioeconomic and political divisions/barriers and in turn, build relationships between people of different
backgrounds – using the practice of knitting as a guide. The completed installation represents a cross section of the United States through
knitted and crocheted patterns of floor plans unique to each area and created by the artist and community participants.
The artist will complete three residencies and month long workshops in Phoenix, Arizona; Boca Raton, Florida; and Bloomington, Indiana.
The productions from these workshops will then be pieced together and exhibited at The Schmidt Center Gallery at Florida Atlantic University.
