Assistant Manager-Learning Resources | OIT Broward Technology Services

Dale Brown is the Assistant Manager, Learning Resources, for the Office of Information Technology- Broward Technology Services. He is part of the team that makes sure that everything involving technology use at the FAU Broward Campuses runs properly and efficiently. He began working for FAU in 2004 after having worked for Gateway as a Level 1 IT support specialist. "My interest in technology started as a child playing with my dad’s Polaroid camera and being intrigued by the instantaneous photo I received," Brown remembered "My fascination continued to grow as I discovered and learned how each hardware component worked in our home computer. In high school and college, I built my own computer to my specification."

Before becoming the Assistant Manager for Learning Resources, he worked as a Desktop Support Technician for a few years. "Over the years, I was fortunate to be involved in numerous project assignments on and off campus, such as, e-classroom technology upgrades, events support with audio visual technology and streaming solution," Brown said. "Implementing proven solutions, supporting technology to meet the customer’s needs, seeing the sense of satisfaction and verbal compliments on a job well done make it rewarding."

Brown said that his most memorable experience at FAU thus far was supporting the annual Mu Alpha Theta Math competition. "I was in charge of putting a team together to provide support and virtual solution for connecting multiple e-classrooms whereby assigned moderators can communicate in real time. This allowed for students in different e-classrooms to take the math exam simultaneously," Brown said, stressing that empathy, adaptability, patience, effective listening, and attentiveness are some of the important customer service qualities he always apples in his day-to-day interaction with faculty and staff.

Brown was born and raised in Jamaica, He later moved to New York City where he lived for eight years before moving to Florida. He is a graduate of the New York City College of Technology. During his free time, Brown enjoys "photography, playing and watching basketball, going to technology trade shows, attending car shows, and music."
