How to Become a Florida Contractor

Determine whether you are qualified for licensure as a contractor. Study Florida Statutes 489.111.If you are not sure whether or not you are qualified for licensure under the statute, write an email to the DBPR by clicking here.They will respond promptly and your answer will be in writing.
Study the Candidate Information Booklet (Tambien disponible en español).
Register for the exam. Examination Registration Instructions and Application (Note the exam dates and locations. Step 6.3)
Purchase books required for the open book exam.

- General, Building, and Residential Reference List
- These books and the tabs may be purchased through the instructor, call for details.
Study the Examination Content Information Booklets.
1. All Trades should review the BUSINESS AND FINANCE Sections
2. Then Choose Your Trade from the list on the DBPR website

1. Frequently Asked Questions for the CILB, Fingerprinting, and Exam
2. Exam dates and locations.

Pass the exam.
Apply for your license with the Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR).
