Volunteers help us in every aspect of our department. From office work to notetaking to research assistants. Any hours that you can contribute will be appreciated. We would love for you to come and help us, and we will work around your schedule.

Types of Volunteer Jobs Available:

Notetaker:

Takes comprehensive lecture notes for hearing impaired, physical impaired, or learning disabled students.




Notetaker Request Form:

Students are required to fill out the Notetaker Request form for each semester they are requesting notes for their courses. This form is only to be filled out if the student has Volunteer Notetaking approved as an accommodation through their SAS Consultant. To fill this form out, students will include the following information: Course code, course name, class days/times, campus, building/room number, and professors name. It is important to remember to only list the courses you are requesting notes for on this form. 

 

Proctor:

Oversees administration of exams for students with varying disabilities.



Reader:

Reads textbooks and library research materials on tape for visually impaired and learning disabled students. Can be done in the privacy of your own home, with flexible hours.


Research Assistant:

Assists in the use of library databases and retrieving books, journals, and articles for visually impaired and physically impaired students.


Scribe:

Writes down information dictated by a visually impaired, physically impaired, or learning disabled student.


Sighted Guide:

Provides assistance in navigating the FAU campus for visually impaired students.


Tutor:

Provides one-to-one and small group tutorial assistance in various subjects to students with varying disabilities.
