The incorporation of mindfulness training into the FAU curriculum and campus life is an initiative of the University’s Peace, Justice, and Human Rights program. Following Barb Schmidt’s philosophy that “outer peace begins with inner peace,” FAU encourages students, faculty and staff to explore mindfulness techniques in their daily lives and to participate in the Peace, Justice, and Human Rights events and activities throughout the year.
To that end, FAU benefits from collaboration with mindfulness training with international mindfulness activist and author Barb Schmidt. The First-Year Experience course SLS 1503: Learning Strategies and Human Development incorporates adapted from Barb Schmidt’s The Practice: Simple Tools for Managing Stress, Finding Inner Peace, and Uncovering Happiness.
