Psychological Impact of Recent News

January 12, 2018

In light of the current sociopolitical discourse that marginalizes people of color and immigrants, FAU Counseling and Psychological Services stands with our richly diverse student body during this time of pain and divisiveness. We acknowledge the range of emotions that can emerge as these dialogues unfold in the media and in our communities.  We strive to make our center a welcoming and safe place for domestic and international students from all backgrounds.  We invite you to walk-in to speak with a counselor during regular business hours, or contact us at 561-297-3540 to make an appointment should you feel distressed and in need of support.  We also have support available by phone when our office is closed.  This can be accessed by calling our after-hours crisis line at 561-297-3540.

Tragedy in Las Vegas

October 2, 2017

Student Affairs’s Counseling and Psychological Service (CAPS) is deeply saddened by the tragedy in Las Vegas, Nevada on October 1, 2017. We recognize that this could be a very difficult time for many of our students who are from that area or know others who are from there as well. We want you to know if you or other students are experiencing distress related to this event, or if this event triggered memories of other tragedies in your life, CAPS is here to provide a safe and confidential environment to discuss this with a counselor.  If support is needed, please contact us at 561-297-3540, and after-hours press Option 2 for immediate assistance to talk to a therapist.

During this time, we encourage you to reach out for support as well as extent support to others. It is important for us to stay connected and do what we can to take care of one another.
