The University Galleries in the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters at Florida Atlantic University, 777 Glades Road, Boca Raton campus, presents “Family Art Day” in the Schmidt Center Gallery as well as the Ritter Art Galleries on Saturday, March 4, from 1 to 4 p.m. Open to kids ages 5 to 12 to participate, the event is free for families to attend.
At “Family Art Day,” children and their families will discover the art of graphic communications through the historic images of radical activist organizations like the Black Panthers, the politically moving interactive and multimedia installations of artist Sharon Daniel, and the famous emotive and message-driven graphic designs of graphic artist David Carson, via guided tours and art activities with the University Galleries’ Artist Mentorship Program (AMP) student mentors. Adults can take a step back and let AMP Mentors immerse the kids in the art or gladly join them in the fun.
The University Galleries are open Tuesdays through Fridays from 1 to 4 p.m. and
Saturdays from 1 to 5 p.m. Group and class tours are welcome during public hours as well as at other times scheduled by appointment. The Schmidt Center Gallery is located in the Performing Arts building (No. 51) marked by a tall, white cubicle tower. Parking on the University campus is subject to strict regulations. Visitors should stop at the information booth on Glades Road and Northwest 10th Avenue to get a parking pass, or park in metered spots.
The University Galleries exhibition and education programs are supported in part by the Cultural Council of Palm Beach County, R.A. Ritter Foundation, Beatrice Cummings Mayer and individual contributors. Museum Education programs are made possible by the Kaye Endowment for Arts Integration.
