Threads, Folds, & Rabbit Holes presents a series of mixed media paintings with embroidery and digital manipulation by Kristy Deetz featuring an evocative Rabbit as its central character. Alluding to Lewis Carroll’s Through the Looking-Glass and other traditional narratives, this series of figurative abstractions on fabric good-humoredly deconstruct imagery from pop, outsider, and high culture to create new spaces of meaning from familiar imagery. The shape-shifting Rabbit is positioned in front or behind; it looks into, out, around, or between images, holes, and windows. It also visits holidays in a nostalgic meditation on mortality and transience. The paintings use dark humor, visual puns, historical allusions, cultural collisions, and spiritual conundrums to play with meaning, creating a new, surreal fairytale.   The exhibit gathers works from Deetz’s two most recent series, Throught the Veil and Holidays Unfolding, accompanied by the Color of Music, a cameo installation by Evelyn Politzer, and two books written by Edward Louis: The Singular Adventures of Rabbit & Kitty Boy and Holidays Unfolding: The Continuing Adventures of  Rabbit & Kitty Boy.
