A Clearer View for Cleaner Waters

Beneath every pond, lake and lagoon lies a hidden world where sediments constantly exchange chemicals with the water above — fueling or reducing pollution. Until now, these changes were nearly impossible to see. The CAROSEL system changes that. Developed by researchers at Florida Atlantic's Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute, this breakthrough technology captures real-time snapshots of how sediments react to light, oxygen, storms and shifting seasons. With this new visibility, scientists can pinpoint when and where nutrient pollution is generated.
