About

The Rubin and Cindy Gruber Sandbox is one of the nation's first multi-disciplinary, state of the art artificial intelligence (AI) labs located in a University Library.

This collaborative, experimental space for students of all levels, from all disciplines, provides the opportunity to directly engage with the fast-advancing field of artificial intelligence. Students, faculty and community members have the opportunity to come together to create innovative solutions to real world problems.

Thanks to a generous gift from Rubin and Cindy Gruber, the Rubin and Cindy Gruber Sandbox opened in the spring of 2020. The 3,400 square-foot lab space located in the Wimberly Library was designed to be flexible and to evolve as student needs evolve.

The Sandbox is home to transformative technologies that require minds from many disciplines and all levels (high school through Ph.D.). The projects that are being worked on within this lab are student driven and use cutting edge technology to make ideas come to life. Within The Sandbox, you’ll find undergrad and graduate students working side-by-side with faculty and community members on projects and research from all subject areas.

The Sandbox was developed in partnership with the FAU Libraries, Machine Perception and Cognitive Robotics Lab and the Charles E. Schmidt College of Science.
