FAU's Division of Research Affiliates with DKJA
The Institute for Sensing and Embedded Network Systems Engineering (I-SENSE) within Florida Atlantic University’s Division of Research has entered into an agreement with the Donna Klein Jewish Academy (DKJA) to permit DKJA high school students who are interested in engineering, computer science, and technology to participate in tours, seminars and research training opportunities on the FAU campus.
The DKJA Engineering Program, which will begin in August, will be offered to students enrolled in an engineering and science-based curriculum at DKJA’s Claire and Emanuel G. Rosenblatt High School. The affiliation with I-SENSE will allow these students the opportunity to visit research laboratories, attend seminars and engage with current students and faculty. Participants also will be able to design individual and group projects, conduct research and participate in an on-campus showcase to present their work.
“Identifying impactful ways to engage with our community and to inspire the next generation of engineers and scientists is a core tenet of our mission,” said Jason Hallstrom, Ph.D., director of I-SENSE. “Our partnership with the Donna Klein Jewish Academy will create opportunities for DKJA students to be inspired by FAU’s thought leaders, and for our thought leaders to in turn be inspired by the coming generation.”
Students in the program will be required to take a minimum of two years of engineering courses and one year of computer science courses at Rosenblatt High School. After one full year of participation in the FAU program, students who have successfully completed all requirements will receive a Certificate of Completion and Academic Excellence in the Engineering Program.
“Our affiliation with I-SENSE and the tremendous team of professionals at FAU will provide our students with wonderful opportunities for learning and growth as aspiring engineers,” said Helena Levine, head of school at DKJA. “This initiative is key to expanding our offerings in engineering, computer science and technology, and we are thankful to I-SENSE Director Jason Hallstrom for his extraordinary work and partnership.”
