David Devraj Kumar


Dr. David Devraj Kumar is Professor of Science Education and former Associate Dean of Research and Graduate Studies in Education, Doctoral Coordinator and Coordinator of Graduate Programs for the Department of Curriculum and Instruction in Florida Atlantic University (FAU)’s College of Education. His research involves Science Problem Based Learning with Computers, Nanotechnology, Science Literacy, Evaluation and Policy. He has directed funded projects, published books with reputed publishers and articles in refereed journals such as the Journal of Science Education and Technology, and Journal of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, and presented conference papers, and been invited to deliver the Chemical Pioneer Lecture by The American Institute of Chemists (AIC) and the Sir Ramasamy Mudaliar Lecture by the University of Kerala.

The recognitions bestowed upon him for research and teaching include the Researcher of the Year Award from FAU, Faculty Member of the Year of the FAU Broward Achievement Awards from FAU, Sir Ron Nyholm Education Prize from the Royal Society of Chemistry in the United Kingdom, STEM-Champion Award for college level faculty from the International STEM Education Association and election as Fellow by the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). He serves on the Early Warning committee of FAU Student Success Task Force, and as The AIC Representative to the AAAS Societal Impacts of Science and Engineering Section. He was twice appointed by the Governor of Florida to the Director Board of the Florida Fund for Minority Teachers. He enjoys teaching hands-on counterintuitive science and helping his students learn meaningful science. He initiated an informal science learning project with the Fort Lauderdale Museum of Discovery and Science.
