Florida Atlantic University graduate Joel Iglesias recently won a Latin Grammy in the Best Urban Music Album. Iglesias won the award for sound engineering J. Balvin’s album “Colores.”
Iglesias graduated from the FAU Commercial Music Program in the Department of Music with a concentration in technology in August 2017. He was active in FAU’s Hoot/Wisdom Recordings, the on-campus record label and he also performed in the choral area, including the top vocal group, ¡Cantemos!
FAU’s commercial music program offers comprehensive undergraduate and graduate programs to help students develop skills for a professional music career. Students are able to study the business of music as they develop their individual instrumental and/or vocal skills. In addition, the Commercial Music program provides students with valuable practical experience through internships and working at Hoot/Wisdom Recordings.
Hoot/Wisdom Recordings is FAU’s student-run/faculty-supervised record label established in 2002 under the direction of Professor Michael Zager. The goal of the record label is to provide real-world experience for students in all facets of the music industry. Every semester Hoot/Wisdom Recordings seeks talented students from the FAU student body and invites them to record a commercially released single.
The label produces and records all of its albums, EP’s and singles in its state-of-the art studios on the FAU Boca Raton campus. The mission of the label is to record and produce quality music from the diverse student population and faculty. To date, the label has produced 32 albums and earned two Latin Grammy nominations. For more information about FAU’s Commercial Music Program, visit
