Application Procedures

Applications may be downloaded from the FAU website (https://gradcas.liaisoncas.org/apply/). All application materials, including the letter of intent, three letters of reference, and writing sample, should be uploaded into the graduate admission application prior to submission.

Transcripts should be sent to:

Florida Atlantic University
Graduate College
SU-80, Room 101
777 Glades Road
Boca Raton, FL 33431

Applicants who have completed all or part of their education outside of the United States are required to have their foreign credentials evaluated course by course by an independent evaluation service that is a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES). For a list of member evaluation services, please visit the NACES website at www.naces.org.

Florida Atlantic University evaluates foreign credentials internally. However, the applicant may choose to use a NACES member company. If an internal evaluation was requested through the admissions application, the following documents must be received 30 business days prior to the admissions deadline by the Graduate College.

The Ph.D. in Comparative Studies Program only accepts applications for the Fall semester of each academic year. The deadline for Fall admission is January 15. For candidates not seeking Ph.D. fellowships, the deadline is March 1.

Financial Support

Graduate Teaching Assistantships are primarily available in English, French, Italian and Spanish. GTAs gain valuable experience teaching and/or assisting in undergraduate courses in their disciplines. The teaching assistantship includes a $15,000.00 stipend as well as a full tuition waiver. Students awarded GTAs are automatically entered into competition for Presidential Fellowships, which add $5,000.00 to the annual stipend.

Special fellowships for students concentrating their studies in areas related to Peace, Justice and Human Rights are also available on a competitive basis.

If you are interested in competing for a Graduate Teaching Assistantship, please include in your statement of purpose this request and indicate any prior teaching experience you may have had in your M.A. program or elsewhere. Be sure to indicate in which areas you feel qualified to work (English, Spanish, French, Italian, Communication, etc.).
