$16 Million Gift Puts FAU on the Road to Greatness

Today, we announced the largest donation in Florida Atlantic University’s history – a $16 million gift from the Schmidt Family Foundation that will be used to build a world-class student resource center on the Boca Raton campus. The Schmidt Family Complex for Academic and Athletic Excellence will house a student-athlete academic and leadership center, state-of-the-art training equipment and other health and wellness features. It will be open to all FAU students and will blend three essential ingredients: Academics, athletics and excellence.

In making this magnificent gift, FAU alumnus Dick Schmidt said he believes our university “is poised for greatness” — and I couldn’t agree more. I’ve seen greatness in FAU’s future from the beginning of my presidency, and that vision grows stronger every day. We have the ability to play to win, both in the classroom and on the field. With the help of incredibly generous friends like Dick and Barb Schmidt and the Schmidt Family Foundation, that’s exactly what we’re going to do!

Today’s announcement is a true milestone for FAU. We’re well on our way to becoming America’s next great university. Go Owls!
