Celebrating FAU Day in Tallahassee

This week, I joined a delegation of nearly 40 students, faculty, administrators, trustees – and even Owlsley – in Tallahassee for the annual FAU Day at the Capitol. FAU Day is always a wonderful opportunity to share FAU’s successes with our legislators and lobby on behalf of the university.

The FAU delegation met with leadership in both chambers, as well as legislators and professional staff. Highlights included hearing from FAU alumnus Rep. Toby Overdorf over breakfast and Marshall Criser, chancellor of the State University System of Florida, during lunch. FAU Day also marked the first meeting of the newly formed FAU Owl Caucus, which is a group of legislators who are committed to championing FAU within the state legislature. Additionally, we recognized Speaker pro tempore Rep. MaryLynn Magar as the 2019-20 Higher Education Legislative Champion for her longstanding support of FAU. She worked tirelessly to bring FAU and Max Planck together as partners and helped create a thriving scientific hub at our Jupiter campus.

Thank you to everyone who traveled to Tallahassee to help boost FAU’s recognition as a center of world-class educational programs, groundbreaking research, local and global community engagement, and economic development.

Go Owls!
