FAU Among Top Universities for Diversity and Social Mobility

FAU is very proud of its long history of providing a world-class educational experience to a diverse population of students. We’ve become known as an institution where all students succeed, regardless of their race, ethnicity, or socio-economic class. That’s why I’m especially pleased to share that FAU is ranked No. 45 in the nation for top performers on social mobility by U.S. News and World Report, the “gold standard” in college rankings. New this year, the U.S. News Social Mobility ranking is computed using graduation rates of low-income and Pell-awarded students. At FAU, Pell-eligible students, first-generation students, African American students and Hispanic students all outpace the university’s overall retention and graduation rates — an accomplishment that also eliminates the historical achievement gaps between minority and white students.

For the third year in a row, FAU was listed as one of the most ethnically diverse universities in the United States. Our “diversity index” score tied with 11 other institutions, including Princeton University and Carnegie Mellon University. Once again, we are ranked as the most diverse public university in the state of Florida.

Additionally, FAU was ranked No. 140 overall for Top Public Schools. This is the first time the university has officially appeared on the list! This is a wonderful achievement for our many dedicated faculty and staff, who worked to make FAU “America’s Fastest Improving University.” We will keep moving forward with Unbridled Ambition® to rank even higher next year. Go Owls!
