Remembering Nobel Laureate Elie Wiesel

Remembering Nobel Laureate Elie Wiesel

Last weekend, we learned the sad news that Holocaust survivor and activistElie Wiesel passed away at the age of 87. Wiesel devoted his life to educating others about the plight of Jews and other oppressed populations around the world. In 1986, he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his work in promoting human rights.

In May 1997, Wiesel received an honorary doctorate from FAU. He was nominated by longtime friend Dr. Alan Berger, Raddock Family Eminent Scholar for Holocaust Studies at FAU. He also was the inaugural speaker in FAU’s May Smith Lecture Series on Post-Holocaust Christian-Jewish Dialogue in 2003.

The world lost a great spiritual leader in Elie Wiesel, but his lessons will remain with us forever.
