FAU Named Lewy Body Dementia Research Center of Excellence

This week, FAU was named a Research Center of Excellence by the Lewy Body Dementia Association, which is the leading advocacy group dedicated to increasing awareness and research about Lewy Body Dementia (LBD). FAU joins a nationwide collaboration of 24 distinguished academic research centers that were selected based on their clinical expertise in LBD, among other criteria.

We are proud to have world-renowned LBD and Alzheimer’s disease expert, Dr. Jim Galvin, here at FAU. Dr. Galvin leads the Comprehensive Center for Brain Health, a healthy aging clinic on the Boca Raton campus that provides innovative, personalized care for a number of neurodegenerative diseases.

LBD affects 1.4 million Americans and their families – including the late actor Robin Williams – and is one of the most common forms of dementia. It is an honor to join the other esteemed institutions in furthering our understanding of this devastating disease.
