‘Get Wise: Advising on the Go’ – a New Way to Reach Out to Students

FAU’s busy commuter students now have a faster, easier, more convenient way to talk to an academic adviser. Thanks to an innovative program launched this month called “Get Wise: Advising on the Go,” they can access this important service in two parking garages on the Boca campus. On Mondays from 5 to 7 p.m. advisers are in the security office of parking garage 1 (near the library) ready to speak with students in need of academic counseling. On Thursdays during the same hours the service is offered in parking garage 2 (near the College of Arts & Letters). Counselors in the parking garages provide the same comprehensive help that students get in the more conventional setting of an adviser’s office – and no appointment is needed!

We believe that FAU is the first university in the country to offer students an accommodation of this kind. The approach is so unusual that it was the subject of a front page story in the Jan. 20 Sun-Sentinel. Students interviewed were pleasantly surprised to discover this valuable new service, saying they found it very helpful. This kind of outreach is especially important for part-time students who might not be on campus when the regular advising offices are open.

“Get Wise: Advising on the Go” is part of our campaign to make FAU the most student-friendly university in America. Hoot if you love FAU!
