Planning Accessible Sponsored Events
In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and Sections 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, no qualified person will be denied access to, participation in or the benefits of, any program or activity operated by the University because of disability.
Accessibility Checklist for Planning Accessible Events at Florida Atlantic University
Event Advertising and Publicity: Consider including space on registration forms where individuals can request accommodations in advance, include a disability accommodation statement in all event advertising, provide an event point of contact name, phone number, and email.
Space Utilization and Amenities: Outdoor events consider if there are accessible walkways; seating for individuals with mobility, hearing, and vision concerns, Outdoor restroom facilities needed. Indoor events consider seating locations for individuals with mobility, hearing, and vision concerns. Parking and drop locations accessible for vehicles servicing individuals with disabilities.
Accessible Environment: Consider the possibility of guests with mobility, speech, and hearing impairments when planning the event. Guests Attending University Sponsored Events
- Individuals with disabilities attending events hosted on Florida Atlantic University's campus should contact the event host for assistance with obtaining reasonable accommodations.
- Event sponsors must provide a disability access statement with their event advertising which includes their contact information (name, phone number, email) and the date individuals should contact them by to request an accommodation.
