South Florida weather conditions can be intense and change fast. It is important to be prepared for different severe weather conditions that could affect campus and surroundings areas. THUNDERSTORMS & LIGHTNING


  • Pay attention to alerts and warnings
  • Move from the outdoors into a building or car with a roof
  • Avoid using electronic devices connected to an electrical outlet
  • Watch for fallen power lines and trees
  • Follow guidance from FAU Alert & University Authorities

TORNADOES


  • Pay attention to alerts and warnings
  • Follow guidance from FAU Alert & University Authorities
  • Seek shelter immediately
  • Move to the interior area of the lowest level of the building (hallways/rooms)
  • Stay away from exterior windows, glass, and skylights
  • Protect yourself by covering your head or neck with your arms and putting materials such as furniture and blankets around or on top of you

  • Pay attention to alerts and warnings
  • Follow guidance from FAU Alert & University Authorities
  • Depending on the type of flooding:
    • Evacuate if told to do so
    • Move to higher ground or a higher floor
    • Stay where you are
  • Do not drive through flooded roadways. Never drive around barricades
