Letter From The Dean

Michael J. Horswell

Dear students,

We know the world is filled with uncertainly and Covid-19 has upended your lives in numerous ways. We also know that you are looking forward to getting back to normal and resuming your studies. All of us in the College are committed to your intellectual, social and civic engagement, and above all we are committed to keeping everyone in the FAU community safe and healthy.

As we await guidelines for reopening the University, we are exploring ways to maintain our commitments and provide you the education you deserve. More of our faculty are being trained in online pedagogy, and we are shifting some of our courses to interactive, synchronous learning, as well as hybrid and asynchronous classes. We know there is no "one size fits all" for education, and we are exploring ways to make sure we provide the best options possible. In that sense, flexibility and versatility are values and skills we hope to emphasize throughout this crisis. Follow us at hashtag @ArtsandLettersFLEX for updates as well as tips for success. And never hesitate to communicate to me and our college team ideas you may have to keep our educational community moving forward with unbridled ambition!

No matter what, we will adapt to the ever-changing conditions and make sure that you have what you need every step of the way. I encourage you to keep an eye on any schedule changes, and I will do my best to keep you informed. I’ve said this before, but it bears repeating. We are in this together and all of us at the College are here for you.

Michael J. Horswell
