HIRE INSTRUCTIONS FOR NEW INTERNATIONAL STUDENT EMPLOYEES WITHout SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER

If you are a new international student employee and you have a social security number, stop now and click here .

All new international students who DO NOT have a social security number and will be working for the university for the first time need to take the following steps:

  • Complete a Student Job Application
  • Complete an electronic background check.
  • Be approved by the International Students and Scholar Services (ISSS) office to work on-campus
  • Apply for a social security number
  • Complete onboarding through Workday
  • Visit the Human Resources office in Building 4 (second floor)
  1. Complete a Student Job Application-To be able to work on campus, you must submit a Student job application:
    • Go to http://jobs.fau.edu
    • Click “Create an Application”
    • Select “Student Application”
    • Complete your information for the application. Please note that a social security number is not needed to complete the application.
    • At the end of the application, click “Submit”
    • Disregard the error message that says that the application has not been applied to a posting
  2. Complete an electronic background check.
    • § The University uses a third party by the name of Hire Right to complete all of its background screenings.
    • An email from Hire Right will be sent to the FAU email address on record. This email will contain log-in information for a secure site.
    • In the email, students will be linked to a secure site that will require the provided log-in information as well as a Social Security number, address, and date of birth. Once this information is entered, Hire Right will complete the background screening. Please send an email to stuemp@fau.edu to obtain the generic social security number that you should use for the background screening.
    • Once the department completes the hiring process, you will then be sent an email from Workday to start the on-boarding process (step 5).
  3. Be authorized by the International Students and Scholar Services (ISSS) office to work on campus.
    • You must obtain a letter from your hiring department stating that you have been hired and it should outline the details of your job.
    • Print out the Understanding of Eligibility form.
    • Complete the top portion and sign at the bottom.
    • Submit the form to ISSS for their signature of approval. They will make a copy and return the original form to you. Please keep the signed form, as you will need to upload the form during the Workday onboarding process.
    • ISSS will create a social security letter for you that you will have to take to the social security office to apply for a social security number (Step 4).
  4. Apply for a social security number.
    • Take the social security letter, plus all of your immigration documents to the Boca Raton Social Security office to apply for a social security number.
    • Make sure that you receive a letter from the social security office stating that you have applied for a social security number. Click here; for a map, directions, and hours for the Boca Raton Social Security office.
  5. Complete onboarding in Workday. Once your department completes the hire process in Workday, you will be sent an email from Workday to start the onboarding process. On-boarding consists of entering demographic and contact information, as well as the completion of employment forms. Once onboarding is completed, it will be reviewed and approved by Student Employment staff and the hire process will be completed. Students may begin working once onboarding has been approved.   6. Once you have completed onboarding, visit the Human Resources office in Building 4 (second floor) to submit your identifying documents.
