Dr. Anita N. Blowers is a teaching professor and director of legal studies in the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice at Florida Atlantic University. She is also an associate professor emerita in the Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Blowers earned a doctorate in criminal justice from the University at Albany, State University of New York.
Blowers’ research focuses on elder abuse and neglect, older adults in the criminal justice system, sentencing practices and criminal justice policy. She has also contributed to the scholarship of teaching and learning, with a particular focus on student success, assessment and educational effectiveness. Her work has been published in peer-reviewed journals in criminal justice and law, and she has authored book chapters in collaborative academic publications.
As an educator and academic leader, Blowers has held a variety of leadership roles focused on curriculum development, program growth and improved student outcomes. She has also fostered collaborative initiatives that connect academic and student affairs, enhancing student engagement and supporting success inside and outside the classroom.
Through her teaching, scholarship and leadership, Blowers is dedicated to preparing students for successful careers in criminal justice, law and related professions.
