Inaugural ECOS Retreat Brings Members to Pine Jog

More than 80 faculty members, graduate students and staff from the Charles E. Schmidt College of Science and Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute’s School of Environmental, Coastal, and Ocean Sustainability (ECOS) attended a special retreat on April 14. ECOS members gathered at Florida Atlantic’s Pine Jog Environmental Education Center in West Palm Beach for a day that featured a science communication session; a keynote lecture by Nick Aumen, Ph.D., U.S. Geological Survey, Greater Everglades Priority Ecosystem Science Program; networking opportunities and a poster competition that showcased the research of 23 students.
The event also included a “Business of the Environment” panel discussion led by Katherine O’Fallon, executive director, Marine Research Hub. Tim Sperry, founder and CEO of CoolCrete, along with co-founders of the biotechnology company, Cordelia Biosciences, Jessica Tittl Nielsen, CEO, and Monica Schul, chief science officer, served as panelists.
