Environmental Science Research and Education Facilities

 Water Analysis Laboratory

The Water Analysis Lab on FAU's Davie campus provides high quality analytical services to support environmental research done by FAU researchers and their collaborators. The lab places a strong emphasis on providing education and research opportunities for both undergraduate and graduate students. The lab is equipped with state-of-the-art instrumentation for the determination of inorganic constituents in water and basic soils analysis. We are committed to providing hands on training to FAU students and are happy to offer training sessions and hourly user rates to graduate students interested in running their own analyses. We also welcome inquiries and suggestions for incorporating the lab's resources into classes, undergraduate research, and outreach projects.

Teaching and Research Greenhouse

The Environmental Science Teaching and Research Greenhouse at FAU's Davie Campus is a state-of-the-art facility, specifically designed to support undergraduate and graduate instruction and to meet the needs of the environmental science research program. The a 2,100 square-foot greenhouse is centrally controlled by an automated system and the 960 square-foot headhouse includes a harvesting and potting area, and a laboratory.

Harbor Branch Marine Sciences Building

In 2006, FAU opened the FAU/Harbor Branch Marine Sciences Building; a 40,000-square-foot, joint-use facility housing specially equipped marine science labs, classrooms and video-conferencing equipped meeting rooms;at the Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute's 600-acre site in Fort Pierce, FL. The building provides students with undergraduate and graduate degree opportunities, with classes offered in marine biology, marine science, marine biotechnology, natural resources and environmental education.

Gumbo Limbo Environmental Complex

This unique nature center in Boca Raton presents outstanding exhibits of tropical birds, animals, fish, sea creatures, herbs, trees, flowers, and plants. Associated with FAU, this center provides an excellent research and education adjunct.

In partnership with the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD), the Florida Center for Environmental Studies manages a comprehensive education and research center at the Riverwoods Field Lab. Located on a remnant run of the Kissimmee River, Riverwoods is the central staging area for the SFWMD's research and monitoring of the Kissimmee River Restoration Project, a collaborative effort between the SFWMD and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. To maximize the potential of Riverwoods, CES has developed education and research programs that complement the SFWMD's needs and promote the benefits of the Kissimmee River Restoration Project.

 Pine Jog Environmental Education Center

Pine Jog, a unit of FAU’s College of Education, is an environmental education center "with the mission of developing, providing and modeling environmental education programs which foster an awareness and appreciation of the natural world, promote an understanding of ecological concepts, and instill a sense of stewardship toward the earth and its inhabitants."
