The FAU Department of Emergency Management is monitoring Hurricane Isaias. FAU’s service areas are currently in the five-day cone of uncertainty.  A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for all of FAU’s service areas. A Hurricane Watch has been issued for campuses in Palm Beach County and St. Lucie County.

As of today’s 11 a.m. advisory, Isaias is moving toward the northwest near 16 mph, and a general northwestward motion with some decrease in forward speed is expected for the day or so, followed by a turn toward the north-northwest. On the forecast track, the center of Isaias will continue to move near or over the southeastern Bahamas today. Isaias is forecast to be near the central Bahamas tonight, move near or over the northwestern Bahamas on Saturday, and near the east coast of the Florida peninsula Saturday afternoon through Sunday.

Data from the reconnaissance aircraft indicate that maximum sustained winds are near 75 mph with higher gusts. Some strengthening is possible today and tonight, and Isaias is expected to remain a hurricane for the next few days.

FAU officials are in contact with the appropriate local and state agencies. Students, faculty and staff should monitor all communication channels, including the University status page ( www.fau.edu/advisory ), the FAU homepage ( www.fau.edu ), the FAU hotline 1-888-8FAUOWL (832-8695), email, text, phone and local media outlets.
