The Advisory Board of Florida Atlantic University’s School of the Arts in the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters will host a reception with Hal Linden, legendary musician and star of Broadway, television and film, on Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2016 at 6 p.m. at the Theatre Lab at FAU’s Parliament Hall, 777 Glades Road, Boca Raton campus. Tickets are $100 and can be purchased at fauf.fau.edu/HalLinden, by email at gvorsas@fau.edu, or by calling 561-297-2337.

Linden is an actor, singer and musician whose career has spanned more than 65 years with memorable roles on stage, television, in film and a cabaret-style variety show that he tours nationally. Linden is perhaps best known for his role in “Barney Miller,”where he portrayed the police precinct captain in the hit television series that aired on ABC from 1975-1982, earning multiple Golden Globe and Emmy nominations for his work. Linden will reminisce about his career at the event. The FAU Jazz Rats also will perform at the event.

FAU’s Making Waves Award will be presented to Linden at the event. This award was launched by the School of the Arts in 2012 as an opportunity to recognize artists who have made a significant contribution to the arts and education on a regional, national or international scale.  Past recipients have included Broadway legend and musical theater composer Charles Strouse; actor, director and educator André De Shields; and singer/songwriter Elisabeth von Trapp.

The evening is generously underwritten by the Dobbs Family, and all proceeds benefit the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters.  For more information about FAU’s School of the Arts, call 561-297-2337.
