FAU to Host Events for Disability Awareness Month

Florida Atlantic University will host events at its Boca Raton and Davie campuses to commemorate Disability Awareness Month during October. The events are sponsored by FAU’s Student Accessibility Services (SAS) and are open to FAU students, faculty and staff.

The following events will take place on FAU’s Boca Raton campus, 777 Glades Road:

‘Shine a Light on Abilities’ Luncheon

Tuesday, Oct. 10 from noon to 2 p.m.

Grand Palm Room, FAU Student Union

The “Shine a Light on Abilities” Luncheon will showcase the various talents of students within the FAU community. The goal is to highlight abilities and bring awareness to show that students are people first. Attendees will enjoy food, entertainment and giveaways.

Seated Volleyball

Wednesday, Oct. 25 from 6 to 8 p.m.

FAU Recreation & Fitness Center

Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to experience a friendly competition among their peers. During this event, everyone will learn more about this popular Paralympic sport and receive giveaways.

 
Goalball

Thursday, Oct. 26 from 6 to 8 p.m.

FAU Recreation & Fitness Center

Goalball is a Paralympic sport originally designed for veterans who are blind. During this event, participants will learn more about goalball and engage in friendly competition officiated by a Paralympian from Team USA.

The following event will take place at FAU’s Davie campus, 3200 College Ave.:

Thursday, Oct. 12 from noon to 1:30 p.m.

Attendees at the “Shine a Light on Abilities” Luncheon in Davie will enjoy food, entertainment, giveaways, and most importantly, learn more about the abilities of our students. All students, staff, and faculty are welcomed to attend.
