Neurology Resident Rotations

The Neurology Residency Program at Florida Atlantic University is a 4-year categorical residency program accredited by the ACGME. During the PGY-1 year, the neurology residents complete a year of internal medicine at Boca Raton Regional Hospital. The first year includes 4 months of neurology inpatient service. During the second year, residents rotate primarily through the inpatient neurology service.

Call Schedule

There is no overnight call on the neurology service. During the PGY-2 to PGY-4 years, a tele-stroke service provides stroke coverage after 5 pm and on weekends and holidays. Neurology residents take home call approximately once every 5th or 6th evening. Typically, residents will field a handful of calls each night. In general, they can rest at night and arrive refreshed the next morning. The residents enjoy the home call system.

Patient Census

Although we do not have strict patient caps on the neurology service, we have instituted measures to keep the census and duty hours at reasonable levels. The Neurology team does not admit their own patients. Patients are admitted to the internal medicine service and are seen in consultation by the neurology team. The internal medicine service handles all of the admissions and discharges.
